COLUMBUS—In preparation for construction of Columbus Metropolitan Library’s (CML) new Barnett Branch, the current branch, located at 3434 E. Livingston Ave., will close to the public at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.
CML will open a temporary Barnett Branch at 3227 E. Livingston Ave. at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 13. Its hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and closed Sunday. The collection size will be reduced with a focus on high-interest titles. When the new Barnett Branch opens in 2025, the collection will return to its normal size.
The Barnett Branch was built in 1992. It was formerly known as the Livingston Branch until it was renamed in 2019. The new Barnett Branch, to be built on the same site, will nearly double the size of the current branch from roughly 12,300 square feet to approximately 22,000 square feet. Turner is the construction manager at risk and Schooley Caldwell and Evoke Studio are the architects.
CML will kick off construction with an indoor ceremonial “wallbreaking” at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22. This brief, highly visual event will include library leaders and city and community officials. It is free and open to all. Parking is available in the branch parking lot.
