Library and city officials to attend major construction milestone

WHO:      Columbus Metropolitan Library
WHEN:    Tuesday, Dec. 10 | 12:30 p.m.
WHERE:  3434 E. Livingston Ave.
WHAT:    Topping out of CML’s new Barnett Branch

Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) will commemorate the topping out of its new Barnett Branch with a photo opportunity for the media. The brief, highly visual event will mark a major construction milestone as the final steel beam is affixed to Barnett’s new library branch, expected to open in 2025.

CML CEO Lauren Hagan will be available for comment.

To prepare for construction, CML held a ceremonial “wallbreaking” on May 22, 2024. The temporary Barnett Branch, at 3227 E. Livingston Ave., is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

The Barnett Branch was built in 1992. It was formerly known as the Livingston Branch until it was renamed in 2019. The new Barnett Branch, to be built on the same site, will nearly double the size of the current branch from roughly 12,300 square feet to approximately 22,000 square feet. Turner is the construction manager at risk and Schooley Caldwell and Evoke Studio are the architects.

Columbus Metropolitan Library has served the people of Franklin County, Ohio since 1873. With its Main Library and 22 branches, CML is well known for signature services and programs like School Help, Reading Buddies, Summer Reading Challenge and Ready for Kindergarten. The library’s Strategic Plan supports the vision of “a thriving community where wisdom prevails,” which positions CML to respond to areas of urgent need: kids unprepared for kindergarten, third grade reading proficiency, high school graduation, college and career readiness and employment resources.
