Library and city officials to attend major construction milestone

WHO:      Columbus Metropolitan Library
WHEN:    Tuesday, Jan. 7 | 2:30 p.m.
WHERE:  2223 Cleveland Ave.
WHAT:    Topping out of CML’s new Linden Branch

Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) will commemorate the topping out of its new Linden Branch with a photo opportunity for the media. The brief, highly visual event will mark a major construction milestone as the final steel beam is affixed to Linden’s new library branch, expected to open in 2025.

CML CEO Lauren Hagan will be available for comment.

To prepare for construction, CML held a ceremonial “wallbreaking” on April 17, 2024. The temporary Linden Branch, at 1990 Jefferson Ave., is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

The Linden Branch was built in 2004. The new two-level Linden Branch, being built on the same site, will more than double its size from roughly 12,700 square feet to approximately 27,000 square feet. Turner is the construction manager at risk and Moody Nolan is the architect.

Columbus Metropolitan Library has served the people of Franklin County, Ohio since 1873. With its Main Library and 22 branches, CML is well known for signature services and programs like School Help, Reading Buddies, Summer Reading Challenge and Ready for Kindergarten. The library’s Strategic Plan supports the vision of “a thriving community where wisdom prevails,” which positions CML to respond to areas of urgent need: kids unprepared for kindergarten, third grade reading proficiency, high school graduation, college and career readiness and employment resources.
