Library to host open houses to share information about after-school programs and activities for students

Plus, School Help Centers open Aug. 19

COLUMBUS—Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) will host After-School Experience Open Houses to share the many ways CML can support students after school. Click here for the open house schedule. Families can learn more about:

  • Reading Buddies: One-on-one reading practice with an adult for students K-3.
  • School Help: After-school supportwith schoolwork for students K-12.
  • YouMedia: An interactive space for teens to learn technology (at some CML locations).
  • After-School Snack: In partnership with the Children’s HungerAlliance(at some CML locations).

CML’s School Help Centers reopen on Monday, Aug. 19. K-12 students will once again have a place to get free help with their schoolwork from friendly staff and volunteers. School Help Centers offer students access to welcoming spaces to study and learn, as well as computers, printers, digital research tools and other resources.

See below for specific hours at each library location. Service hours reflect differences in school dismissal times among the 10 districts CML serves (Canal Winchester Local, Columbus City, Dublin City, Gahanna-Jefferson Public, Groveport Madison Local, Hamilton Local, Hilliard City, New Albany-Plain Local, Reynoldsburg City and Whitehall City).

SCHOOL HELP CENTER HOURS OF OPERATION

Monday – Friday, 3-6 p.m.
Barnett, Dublin, Franklinton, Hilltop, Martin Luther King, New Albany, Northside, Whitehall branches

Monday – Thursday, 3:30-6:30 p.m. and Friday, 3-6 p.m.
Canal Winchester, Driving Park, Gahanna, Hilliard, Linden, Marion-Franklin, Northern Lights, Shepard, South High, Whetstone branches

Monday – Thursday, 4-7 p.m. and Friday, 3-6 p.m.
Karl Road, Parsons, Reynoldsburg, Southeast branches

Columbus Metropolitan Library has served the people of Franklin County, Ohio since 1873. With its Main Library and 22 branches, CML is well known for signature services and programs like School Help, Reading Buddies, Summer Reading Challenge and Ready for Kindergarten. The library’s Strategic Plan supports the vision of “a thriving community where wisdom prevails,” which positions CML to respond to areas of urgent need: kids unprepared for kindergarten, third grade reading proficiency, high school graduation, college and career readiness and employment resources.
